John Donald Hicks (January 25, 1890-February 5, 1972) was a member of the history department at the University of California, Berkeley for thirty years. He was the Morrison Professor of American history from 1942 until 1957, when he became Morrison Professor Emeritus. He was dean of the Graduate Division for two years, and chairman of the history department for four years. He also worked on special committees such as one that tried, unsuccessfully, to solve the loyalty oath controversy in 1949-1950, and on the Academic Senate and administrative committees of the University.
